The Office of Special Education hosted a Virtual Special Education Directors Conference on August 3-7, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.. This virtual conference was presented over a five-day period and was designed to provide information that all new special education directors would need to begin the school year. The sessions focused on Compliance and Data. Topics covered included, but were not limited to, Leadership, ECSE, Dispute Resolution, Discipline, Postsecondary Transition, Data and an Overview of Special Education Program Requirements. Check back periodically, as this page will be updated as information and materials are made available.

Special Education Data Sessions

Part 1: The Basics
This session will cover basic data requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act; people you should know or get to know who will be instrumental in reporting accurate and complete
data; an overview of the DESE MOSIS and Core Data systems; and a deep dive into the special education child count data collection.

Part 2: Data Reporting
This session will cover special education exit data, graduate and dropout follow‐up and discipline data reporting.

Part 3: Miscellaneous Reporting
This session will review personnel reporting, early childhood outcomes, high need fund reporting and other miscellaneous reporting.

Special Education Compliance Sessions

Special Education 101 and 102
The basics related to the roles and responsibilities of OSE especially as it relates to ECSE.

Discipline of Students with Disabilities
Focuses on the removal of the student from the current educational placement to another setting where the student does not receive the special education and related services described in the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Dispute Resolution Under the IDEA
Discusses ways to prevent and resolve conflict and stages and timelines for Missouri's Dispute Resolution Process as outlined by the IDEA.

Early Childhood Special Education: Compliance, Data, Finance, and Effective Practices
Highlights how ECSE is addressed within each section of OSE/DESE.

IDEA and Transition Planning
Focuses on Indicator 13 and how it relates to Transition Planning.
