Russell Still, a member of the Missouri State Board of Education, was honored recently by the Missouri National Education Association (MNEA) for his contributions to public education.

Still was presented with a Horace Mann Friend of Education Award.

"This award recognizes Russell's dedication to the students of our state," said Commissioner of Education Chris L. Nicastro. "As a member of the State Board and a former local school board member he has given a great deal of time and energy to improving public education in Missouri."

Still, a resident of Columbia, was appointed to the State Board in April 2010. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Missouri School of Law and is a partner in the law firm of Harlan, Harlan and Still. He has been a classroom teacher and a PTA president and served on the Columbia Board of Education from 1996-2005.

MNEA leaders presented eight Missourians with the Horace Mann Friend of Education Award at the organization’s annual Spring Representative Assembly.

The award is given by MNEA and Horace Mann to candidates who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to public education. Missouri has presented the Horace Mann Friend of Education Award since 1977.
