Four Missouri schools were recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as Green Ribbon Schools on Wednesday for their progress in the area of sustainability:

• Claymont Elementary School (Parkway C-2; Ballwin)
• Highcroft Ridge Elementary School (Parkway C-2; Chesterfield)
• Herculaneum High School (Dunklin R-V; Herculaneum)
• Raintree School (St. Louis)

Across the country, a total of 35 schools, 14 districts and four postsecondary institutions were honored for their innovative efforts to address the three “pillars” of the program: reducing environmental impact and utility costs, improving health and wellness, and ensuring effective sustainability education. The honorees were named from a pool of candidates nominated by 28 states.
