Four Missouri Schools Pick Up Green Ribbon Honors
The 2018 Green Ribbon Schools program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, announced that four Missouri schools were selected for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability education.
Bellerive Elementary (Creve Coeur) and Green Trails Elementary (Chesterfield) of the Parkway C-2 school district, W.W. Keysor Elementary (Kirkwood) from the Kirkwood R-VII school district, and St. Louis University High School were recognized among the 58 nationwide schools, districts and postsecondary institutions selected this year.
“It’s important for students and communities to learn and live in a healthy environment, and the Green Ribbon program highlights a select number of schools that are going the extra mile to make that possible,” said Department of Elementary and Secondary Education interim Commissioner Roger Dorson.
The honorees were named from a pool of candidates nominated nationwide, and 45 percent of the 2018 honorees serve a disadvantaged student body.
