Brock Miesner of St. Ann, Mo. is on the U.S. team going to the WorldSkills competition in Sao Paolo, Brazil, August 11-16. Miesner will be competing in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning category for the SkillsUSA World Team.

Miesner is a graduate of Perryville High School in Perryville, Mo. He credits his classes at Perryville Area Career Center for his chosen field, further evidence of the great things taking place in Missouri public schools every day.

“I tried heating and cooling and loved it,” Miesner said. “Nearly everything I learned was from that course.”

Meisner earned an associate’s degree in industrial electricity and motor controls from State Technical College of Missouri in Linn and, concurrently, an associate’s degree in heating and cooling from Mineral Area College, Park Hills, Mo. He placed first in a national skills competition two years in a row. Those wins, along with a two-month selection process, led to his selection for the SkillsUSA World Team.

“Congratulations to Brock on this exciting opportunity,” said Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven. “He is a stellar example of the way Missouri students use the real-world skills and knowledge that our schools provide every day, and we are confident that he will do well in Brazil!”

Missouri Career Education combines academics and occupational skill training to prepare students of all ages.  Training programs are offered in Agriculture, Business, Health Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences, Skilled Technical Sciences, Technology and Engineering, and Marketing and Cooperative Education.

College and career readiness is a main goal of Missouri’s Top 10 by 20 initiative, an effort to place Missouri among the top 10 states in education by 2020.
