The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Office of Childhood (OOC), is proud to celebrate the tremendous success of the 53rd Annual Conference on the Young Years (CYY). For more than half a century CYY has served as one of Missouri’s most trusted and valued professional development traditions for early childhood educators.  The conference continues to bring together professionals who share a deep commitment to strengthening early learning for children from birth through third grade.

This year CYY welcomed nearly 1,800 attendees representing seven states. As it has for more than 50 years, CYY provided high quality learning opportunities that supported growth, collaboration, and innovation. Over the course of the event participants engaged in more than 125 breakout sessions, heard from five exceptional keynote speakers, explored resources from over 50 exhibitors, and connected with colleagues across the region. The conference provided dynamic and memorable experiences that truly reflected the dedication and energy of Missouri’s early childhood workforce. The diverse sessions offered practical strategies, new research, and thought-provoking discussions designed to help educators strengthen their classrooms, programs, and communities.

Whether first time participants or longtime supporters, this year’s event reaffirmed the value of coming together to learn, share, and inspire one another. Participants were energized by the impressive keynote lineup of Steve Spangler, Jill Molli, Amy Nelson, Jessica Cabeen, and Anne Meeker Watson. Each inspired with unique insights, humor, and expertise. Their presentations equipped professionals with new ideas and tools they could immediately use to support young children and families.

The Exhibit Hall buzzed with activity as professionals browsed materials, connected with returning partners and new vendors, and discovered innovative resources to enhance learning environments. The DESE Learning Lounge also remained a favorite stop for participants, offering direct access to Office of Childhood staff and MOPD Navigators who answered questions, provided guidance, and helped attendees explore available supports.

Special appreciation goes to the CYY Planning Committee, whose hard work and preparation made the entire conference possible. Their thoughtful planning, attention to detail, and dedication to creating a meaningful experience ensured every session, keynote, and event ran smoothly. The success of this year’s conference is a direct reflection of their commitment.

Adding to the week’s sense of community and celebration was the MOAEYC Friday night event, the Goldrush Gala, which brought attendees together for an evening of fun, prizes, refreshments, music, and dancing. The positive energy and sense of community on display throughout the evening reflected the spirit of the entire conference.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the 53rd Annual Conference on the Young Years. We look forward to continuing this proud tradition as planning begins for next year’s landmark event.
