2010.050.20 Job Search

A job search period is a valid need for participants who have an active Child Care Subsidy case. A parent may use job search as a need for ninety (90) days or until the last day of the month in which the ninetieth (90) day falls as long as the parent continues to meet other eligibility requirements.  The parent may not use multiple need losses to count towards a longer job search period.

2010.050.05 Employment

Employment must be paid employment and verified by the source. Employment is a valid need as long as a parent(s) continues to work.  A parent may use employment as a valid need as long as they continue to meet other eligibility requirements.

Child care providers providing care to Six or Fewer children (SOF) are not eligible for Child Care Subsidy for their own child(ren) while they are providing care to other children. An SOF is the sole caregiver of the child(ren).

2010.045.15 Deductions from Gross Income

Verify the cost of any monthly medical insurance premium paid by members of the household.

Deduct the cost of any verified medical insurance premium from the eligibility unit’s gross income.

Allow deductions for:

  • Hospital/Physician insurance;
  • MO HealthNet insurance premiums;
  • Dental/Vision insurance;
  • Medicare supplement policies;
  • Cancer insurance;
  • Nursing care; and
  • Other health insurance policies not included above.

Do not allow deductions for:

2010.045.10.25 Loans

  1. Bona fide loans and grants, except that part of a grant designated for living expenses or child care, is an income exclusion.
  2. Any educational grant or loan insured under any program administered under the Higher Education Act is excluded.  These programs of student assistance include:
    • Basic Educational Opportunity Grants;
    • Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants;
    • The College Work Study Program;
    • National Direct Student Loans; and
    • Guaranteed Student Loans.
