  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. Behavior analysis helps educators to understand how behavior works, how behavior is affected by the environment, and how learning takes place. • Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is a process to identify the function of a student's behavior. The information collected during the FBA process should be used to create effective behavior intervention supports and plans.
  • Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP) are detailed plans that include data gathered during the FBA such as function, frequency, severity, consequence, etc. The BIP also includes specific information regarding the target behavior, behavior goals, etc. In addition, steps are proposed to decrease occurrences of inappropriate behavior and to increase occurrences of desired or replacement behaviors. The plan should also include information on progress monitoring and review of the plan.
  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP) is a plan or program developed to ensure that a child who has a disability identified under the law and is attending an elementary or secondary educational institution receives specialized instruction and related services. (34 CFR 300.320)
  • Local Education Agency (LEA) includes all public school districts but also describes supervisory districts and local government cooperative service providers that span multiple school districts.
