2010.035.00 SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (SSN)

A Social Security number (SSN) is NOT required as a condition of eligibility for Child Care Subsidy. Under the Privacy Act of 1974, 1677 (a), the states are prohibited from denying an individual any right, benefit, or privilege provided by law because of the individual’s refusal to disclose his/her Social Security Number unless disclosure is required by federal statute.  Therefore, an application for Child Care Subsidy cannot be denied or placed in pending status because of an individual’s failure or refusal to disclose his/her SSN or the SSN for any household member, including that of the child(ren) for whom Child Care Subsidy is requested.

Inform the applicant disclosure of a SSN is strictly voluntary and will not affect eligibility for Child Care Subsidy.
