Missouri Releases 2019 Annual Performance Reports
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) announced the statewide Annual Performance Reports (APR) for the 2018-19 school year. Included in the data are academic achievement and subgroup achievement results in both English language arts and mathematics, as well as updated markers on a district or charter school’s college and career readiness, attendance and graduation rates.
The 2019 APR report displays both statistical and visual representations of how Missouri districts and charter schools performed rather than point totals. The APR continued to evaluate school performance against prior performance standards. Calculations used to reach the district scores were applied the same way as in previous years.
Please see below for an example of the 2019 APR presentation format.
Results for 2019 assessments in English language arts and mathematics can be compared to 2018 data. Science APR results will be announced in November due to the first-year implementation of a new assessment in 2018-19. A field test was given during the 2018-19 school year for social studies, so schools did not receive official scores, nor was social studies reflected in calculations for the 2019 APR. New social studies assessments will be administered during the 2019-20 school year.
The 2019 APR will be complete upon the release of science data on November 23.
While data in English language arts and mathematics remained fairly stable between the 2018 and 2019 data, four- and five-year graduation rates for nearly all subgroups continued to see an increase. Gaps continued to close specifically with English learners in academics, continuing a trend of recent years with increased scores for that demographic.
All public school district and charter school APR data can be found by accessing DESE’s comprehensive data system portal here. First-time users are encouraged to watch a brief tutorial to assist with recent updates to the portal design.
