Annual Performance Reports for Educator Preparation Programs Now Available

02/11/20

Results from the latest Annual Performance Reports for Educator Preparation Programs (APR-EPPs) have been released to provide information about Educator Preparation Programs to the public, particularly to those pursuing a career in teaching or an advanced degree in education. The APR-EPPs can help those individuals better determine the preparation program in Missouri that’s best suited for them.

The APR-EPPs aim to support continuous improvement and enhance the collaboration taking place between the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), PK-12 schools and the Educator Preparation Programs across our state. Preparing, developing and supporting educators is one of DESE’s strategic priorities to ensure an effective teacher in every classroom and an effective leader in every school.

DESE’s Office of Educator Quality has worked to improve the APR-EPP calculation methods to more clearly evaluate the quality of certificate-eligible candidates emerging from Missouri’s Educator Preparation Programs. The APR-EPPs now available include:

  • Teacher APR-EPP: The report is based on all nine Missouri Teaching Standards. This report changed in 2018 and therefore, currently reflects two years of data.
  • School Counselor APR-EPP: The report is based on the five Missouri School Counselor Standards. This report changed in 2019 and therefore, only reflects one year of data at this time.
  • School Leader APR-EPP: This report currently includes five years of data.

Results from the latest Annual Performance Reports for Educator Preparation Programs (APR-EPPs) have been released to provide information about the programs to the public, particularly parents and students. The APR-EPPs are based on the latest five years of data from educator preparation programs at Missouri colleges and universities.

This year’s teacher APR-EPP has changed from last year. The new report is based on all nine Missouri Teaching Standards. Because of the change in calculation, no accreditation levels have been awarded for teacher preparation programs this year.

The public can view the reports by certification area. Programs that have had fewer than 10 students over a five-year period are not reported.

The APR-EPPs support continuous improvement through a collaborative effort between the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and educator preparation programs. The programs provide the supporting data for the APR-EPPs. DESE surveys first-year teachers and their supervisors.

Preparing, developing and supporting educators is one of Missouri’s Show-Me-Success strategic priorities to ensure an effective teacher in every classroom and an effective leader in every school.

Results from the latest Annual Performance Reports for Educator Preparation Programs (APR-EPPs) have been released to provide information about the programs to the public, particularly parents and students. The APR-EPPs are based on the latest five years of data from education preparation programs at Missouri colleges and universities.

This year’s report has changed from last year, when programs were placed in tiers of performance. The report now shows three levels of accreditation. Because of the change in calculation, no accreditation levels have been awarded this year.

The public can view the reports by certification area to see how well the program prepares its students.

DESE also received survey data from first-year teachers, their supervisors, and first-year principals and the principals’ supervisors about how well they had been prepared. For the first time, new school counselors were surveyed about their level of preparation.

Preparing, developing and supporting educators is one of Missouri’s Show-Me-Success strategic priorities to ensure an effective teacher in every classroom and an effective leader in every school.
