The Missouri School Support Staff of the Year Award celebrates the outstanding contributions of public school support staff across the state. From bus drivers to administrative assistants, these individuals are the backbone of our schools and it's time to recognize their dedication, professionalism, and impact.
Award Overview
This annual award honors two exceptional support staff members from Missouri public schools who go above and beyond in their roles. Whether they’re keeping schools clean, ensuring safe transportation, or supporting students in the classroom, their work makes a difference every day. Nomination, selection, and announcements will take place between March and April.
Dates and Deadlines
August 3, 2026: Missouri Support Staff of the Year Nomination period opens: Nominate a Staff Member
December 1, 2026: Nomination period closes
December – February 2027: Missouri Support Staff of the Year selected
March - April 2027: Two Missouri Support Staff of the Year announced
- Who is Eligible?
Any current support staff member employed full time in a Missouri public school including custodians, cafeteria workers, paraprofessionals, administrative assistants, and more.
- How to Nominate?
Complete the online nomination form, which includes:
• Nominee’s role and years of service
• Specific examples of their contributions
• Contact information for both nominator and nominee
- Who Can Nominate?
Colleagues, supervisors, students, parents, and community members are all welcome to submit nominations. There’s no limit to how many individuals can be nominated from a single Missouri public school district.
- Selection Criteria
Nominees will be evaluated based on the following:
- Impact: Positive influence on students, staff, and the school community
- Dedication: Commitment and reliability in their role
- Professionalism: Excellence and integrity in daily responsibilities
- Innovation: Creative solutions that improve school operations or culture
- Selection Process
A diverse committee of educators, administrators, educational organizations, and community leaders will review all nominations. Using a standardized scoring rubric, they will evaluate each submission and select two statewide recipients.
- Award Presentation
Winners will be surprised in their districts with a visit from the Commissioner or Deputy Commissioners of Education.
They will be:
- Featured in local and statewide media
- Honored at a Missouri State Board of Education meeting
- Presented with a commemorative plaque
