The Office of Special Education will again be hosting a New Director of Special Education Academy on July 23-24, 2015, in Jefferson City. The academy will focus on core activities new directors must complete during their initial months of employment that will assist them in the management of special education procedures and practices to promote positive outcomes for students with disabilities while ensuring the rights of students with disabilities and their parents are protected. Topics to be covered are: Special Education Compliance, Data Collection and Reporting, Effective Instructional Practices, Special Education State Performance Plan, Special Education Program Evaluation, and General Supervision/Monitoring of Special Education Programs.

Who should attend this academy?
New Directors' Finance Academy - Wednesday, July 22, 2015, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Harry S. Truman Building, 301 W. High Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101, Room 490/492.
This date will need to be registered for separately on My Learning Plan for both attendees.
A separate day to cover Special Education Finance is being offered for all first year attendees and the bookkeeper from their district. Both the Special Education Director and bookkeeper are invited because many activities associated with Special Education Finance require participation from both individuals. Feedback received from past participants indicated this option would be helpful. However, the bookkeeper attendance is not required for the Special Education Director to attend.

New Special Education Directors for the 2015-16 school year are invited. A "new" director is defined as a person who will be assuming the position/duties of a Director of Special Education for the first time during the 2015-16 school year.
New Directors' Academy-Returning 2014-15 New Directors' Academy Attendees: - Thursday, July 23, 2015, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday, July 24, 2015, 8:00-12:30, Harry S. Truman State Office Building, 301 W. High Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
We're extending this invitation to attend sessions specifically designed for you! Registration for the separate day for Finance is NOT necessary for second year attendees, as Finance will be covered within the content of the two days.
