Please join us for a webinar on resources for transition planning.  An Electronic Toolkit to assist in Transition Planning for youth with disabilities transitioning from high school to live and work more independently in their homes and communities is coming together!  A webinar has been developed to present this toolkit and explain in more detail how it can be utilized to enhance joint service delivery and collaboration between Centers for Independent Living (CIL), Local Education Agencies (LEA), and Vocational Rehabilitation (VR).  The presenters for this webinar will be Barb Gilpin, Assistant Director, Special Education Effective Practices; Chris Clause, VR Counselor (Sedalia); and, Nathan Zoromski, Youth Advocate, Southwest Center for Independent Living (SCIL-Springfield).

Transition services vary depending on the availability of staff and resources at the local level and not all services identified in the toolkit will be available in all areas of the state.  Examples of services occurring around the state, new ideas, and ways to develop planning in your area will be discussed.  The webinar will be held September 8, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. CST.  For additional information and to access the webinar go to:

A copy of the toolkit will be available prior to the webinar.  The webinar will be recorded and posted to the VR intranet and the DESE and SILC websites for future review by those unable to participate on this date.

The webinar will be followed by a live Q&A about topics discussed during the webinar.  Brenda Simmons, Director Transition Services, VR and Tonya Fambro, Director Independent Living will be available to assist in answering questions.  We will respond to questions received during the webinar as time permits and will post the questions and answers on our website following the webinar.
