Subject: Multiple Professional Development Opportunities for Working with Visually Impaired Students

On May 13, 2011, the Heart of Missouri RPDC will host a workshop on "Working with Students with Low Vision."  This workshop will focus on appropriate accommodations for students with low vision.  The topics will include lighting, no/low tech accommodations, and large print.  Jennifer Coy from St. Louis Lighthouse for the Blind will present information on various handheld magnification devices as well as how to instruct students in their use.  The workshop will be held at University of Missouri-Columbia Campus, 2 London Hall Room #7, Columbia, MO from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  The cost is $85.00.  Lunch, snacks, and parking hang tags will be provided.  The workshop qualifies for 6 hours of professional development.

On May 20, 2011, the Heart of Missouri RPDC will conduct a workshop on "Independent Living Skills for the Student with Visual Impairments."  This workshop will focus on instruction of independent living skills for students with visual impairments.  This area of the expanded core curriculum consists of all the tasks and functions persons perform, in accordance with their abilities, in order to lead lives as independently as possible.  The workshop will be held at University of Missouri-Columbia Campus, 2 London Hall Room #7, Columbia, MO from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  The cost is $85.00.  Enrollment is limited to 20 participants.  Lunch, snacks, and parking hang tags will be provided.  The workshop qualifies for 6 hours of professional development.
