Subject: Early Intervention Courses for Children with Vision Impairment and Their Families

Two courses in early intervention for children with vision impairment and their families will be offered by the Missouri School for the Blind through Project VIISA (Vision Impaired In-Service in America). Applications are now being accepted for Course II with a registration deadline of February 6, 2009.
The Course II: Serving Preschoolers (3-5) with Vision Impairment in Center-based Setting covers topics related to the unique needs of preschoolers who are vision impaired, including: interaction with others (language, social skills, play); literacy issues; determining reading medium; daily living skills; family involvement; cognition and concept development; orientation and mobility (O&M); preschoolers with additional impairments; assessment and the IEP; and, choosing school placement and transition. The course combines self-studies, homework assignments, and two face-to-face sessions with course instructors. The course is free of charge.
