Source: Pam Thomas, Coordinator of First Steps Program

Intended Audience: First Steps Providers and Service Coordinators

Due to the overwhelming interest and successful participation in previous workshops, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will once again collaborate with St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf in Chesterfield, Missouri to provide scholarships for a limited number of providers to attend several workshops related to providing services to children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing ages birth – 3. The scholarship will cover expenses related to travel, registration, and a provider stipend to attend the workshop(s).

The workshops are designed to provide a spectrum of information to providers; from a general overview of best practices in early intervention in deaf education, to interpreting audiologic test results, to problem-solving strategies to ensure positive outcomes. Workshops will be hosted by St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf on the following topics:

            Module 1: Audiologic Assessment

            Module 2: Impact on Family

Module 3: Audition, Communication and Speech Development

Module 4: Language and Literacy Development

            Module 5: Assessment of Learning
