First Steps Listserv

Subject: Scholarships/Workshops for Missouri First Steps Providers/Deaf/HOH

Source: Pam Thomas, Coordinator of First Steps Program

Intended Audience: First Steps Providers and Service Coordinators

Date: August 13, 2010

Due to the overwhelming interest and successful participation in previous workshops, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will once again collaborate with Central Institute for the Deaf (CID) in St. Louis, Missouri to provide scholarships for a limited number of providers to attend several workshops related to providing services to children who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing ages birth – 3. The scholarship will cover expenses related to travel, registration, and a provider stipend to attend the workshop(s).

These workshops are designed to provide a spectrum of information to providers; from a general overview of best practices in early intervention in deaf education, to interpreting audiological test results, to problem-solving strategies to ensure positive outcomes.

The first workshop is titled “Targeting Speech Skills for a Child Who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing: From Assessment to Intervention” and it will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 CID in St. Louis, MO.  For more information on the details of this workshop or an application form to apply for a scholarship, contact Dianne Gushleff at dgushleff@cid.edu  or toll-free at 877.444.4574 ext.133.

Information on additional workshops will be available soon.

These workshops were made possible through the use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) monies that allow professional development opportunities for providers who serve children in the First Steps program.
