Source: Vicky Davidson, Missouri Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities

Target Audience:  Special Education Directors and Secondary Teachers, High School Juniors and Seniors with Disabilities and their Parents

The Governor's Council on Disability and the Missouri Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities announces the 2006 Missouri Youth Leadership Forum, which is open to high school juniors and seniors with disabilities who possess leadership potential.  There is no other opportunity like this in Missouri for young men and women who experience disability.

The program focus is to promote students’ leadership, citizenship, and social skills development.  Forum topics include leadership principles and application, disabilities experience and resource sharing, assistive technology, career goal development, independent living, and advocacy skill building.  The students have a great deal of fun while they are learning to become active leaders in their communities.

Through the application process, a diverse group of students are chosen as delegates to represent their schools and communities from all areas of the state.  Student delegates participate free of charge in this unique career leadership-training program at the University of Missouri - Columbia on July 23 - 26, 2006.

Applications are now available on the website at www.gcd.oa.mo.gov.   The application deadline is February 3, 2006.
