Subject: Transfer of Parental Rights at Age of Majority Form Change

Source: Janet Hoskins, Assistant Director, Compliance

Intended Audience: Superintendents, Special Education Administrators, Principals, Special Education Teachers, and Regular Education Teachers

Date: October 8, 2008

The Transfer of Parental Rights at Age of Majority model form posted on the Division's website at http://dese.mo.gov/divspeced/Compliance/ (click on Forms) has been updated to include a paragraph explaining that when a child with a disability turns 18, some parents obtain a power of attorney so they can assist the child in making financial and legal decisions.  In the model form, additional details are provided to the parents about this process and a website for further clarification is included.  We hope you find this updated model form helpful as you help parents to understand the process.
