Source: Julia LePage, Interim Director, Effective Practices

Intended Audience: Public school administrators with responsibilities for serving children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Date: September 15, 2008

DESE has purchased a workshop from the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) for public school district administrators on Meeting the Needs of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HOH).  The workshop is designed to deliver the most current information on requirements, practices, and resources for improving educational services for students who are Deaf/HOH.  Participants will also work on identified state issues and proposed solutions and create a Deaf/HOH community of practice.  This workshop will be held in the Harry S Truman Building, Room 490/492, 301 West High Street, Jefferson City (for map, go to

http://oa.mo.gov/fmdc/facilitiesoperations/buildings/hstmap.htm) on October 2-3, 2008.

Previous registration guidelines allowed only one participant per district, registration is now open to additional district personnel as well as approved private agency administrators.  Spaces will be available on a first come first served basis.  Registration for the workshop will be $100; this fee will cover both days of the workshop.

In addition, participants are responsible for their own lodging and travel expenses.  To register, go to My Learning Plan at http://dese.mo.gov/divspeced/Deaf_HOH_WS_08.htm.
