Subject: Special Education District Profiles Source: Mary Corey, Director, Data Coordination Intended Audience: Superintendents and Directors of Special Education Date: September 12, 2005
The updated Special Education District Profiles are now available on the DESE Web Application. To access the district profile, log on to <https://k12apps.dese.mo.gov/webapps/logon.asp>. At the Applications Menu, under Special Education, choose "Special Education Profile." Then click on “View Profile Report.” District Profile data errors must be updated by October 15. Corrections for all data (except MAP data) should be made on the Core Data web screens, however, please note that only the most recent two years worth of data (2004-2005 and 2005-2006) can be updated. Access to the 2003-04 school year will end soon. If corrections are made, please make sure that the data are correct across the lines (i.e., male/female = race/ethnicity total) and that there are no EDIT buttons, which indicate that there are errors on the screen.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA 2004) requires that certain data be reported publicly each year for each district. The public reporting of data will use some of the information that is currently reported in the District Profiles, including graduation and dropout rates, participation and performance on assessments, rates of suspension/expulsion, and placement data, among others. Data contained in the Profile is being used for special education monitoring reviews and as part of the Missouri School Improvement Program (Standard 7.1), and is being used to select districts for monitoring reviews.
