Source: Julia LePage, Interim Director, Effective Practices

Intended Audience: Public school administrators with responsibilities for serving children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Date: August 18, 2008

DESE has purchased a workshop from the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) for public school district administrators on Meeting the Needs of Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HOH).  The workshop is designed to deliver the most current information on requirements, practices, and resources for improving educational services for students who are Deaf/HOH.  Participants will also work on identified state issues and proposed solutions and create a Deaf/HOH community of practice.  This workshop will be held in the Harry S Truman Building, Room 490/492, 301 West High Street, Jefferson City (for map, go to

http://oa.mo.gov/fmdc/facilitiesoperations/buildings/hstmap.htm) on October 2-3, 2008.

Space is limited to 50 participants, who MUST be public school administrators.  Each district will be limited to one registrant.

Immediate registration is recommended as participation will be available to the first 50 registrants.  If space is still available after initial registration closes on September 4, 2008, a second district representative and/or administrators from approved private agencies that serve students who are Deaf/HOH will be allowed to register for the workshop.  Initial registration confirmation will be sent in the form of an email by September 4, 2008.  Watch for SELS messages announcing possible availability after September 5, 2008.

Registration for the workshop will be $100; this fee will cover both days of the workshop.  In addition participants are responsible for their own lodging and travel expenses.  To register, go to My Learning Plan at http://dese.mo.gov/divspeced/Deaf_HOH_WS_08.htm.
