SPACE IS AVAILABLE for 45 additional participants in a workshop provided by The National Center for Special Education Accountability and Monitoring (NCSEAM), an Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP)-funded center, on August 13, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. Registration will be available on a first come first served basis available on My Learning Plan at http://www.dese.mo.gov/divspeced/EffectivePractices/training.html.
The first 45 registrants will be admitted. Registration will close Monday, August 11 at 12:00 p.m. There is no cost for the training.
This presentation provides an overview of the Parent Involvement Indicator (B-8) of the state performance plan required by OSEP and IDEA.
Indicator B-8 measures the percent of parents reporting that schools facilitated family involvement in their child's education.
To this end, a set of seven modules have been developed based on evidence-based practice that, if applied, will likely improve schools'
performance on this indicator. The aforementioned modules include:
General Communication Strategies, Parent Friendly Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Practices, Home-School Note, Reading Strategies, Mathematics Strategies, Homework Strategies, and BAugust 20, 2008neral communication strategies includes suggestions of optimal communication techniques schools can utilize when engaging families. Methods pertaining to the approach, attitude, atmosphere, and actions schools should convey are highlighted.
