Subject: REMINDER: Model Local Compliance Plan Selection Certification Statement was Due to DESE July 1, 2008

In a letter sent to superintendents on February 15, 2008, local education agencies were notified of the revised Model Local Compliance Plan and the requirement to notify DESE of their agency's decision regarding adopting or adapting the plan by July 1, 2008. Many districts have failed to notify DESE. If your agency has not submitted the certification to DESE, please do so as soon as possible, but no later than September 30, 2008. Please note: Even if your agency does not receive any IDEA Part B funds, it is still necessary to have a local compliance plan and submit annual assurances to DESE regarding the provision of services to students with disabilities under IDEA.
