Heart of Missouri RPDC is hosting 4 summer workshops: 

The first workshop, "Music and PE for Students with Visual Impairments" will be held on July 9, 2010 from 8:30-3 pm.  Blind and visually impaired students present unique challenges in art, music, and physical education classes. This workshop will present adaptations and curricular considerations for those classes. Alternate teaching strategies will also be covered. This workshop is open to regular classroom teachers, teachers of the blind and visually impaired, paraprofessionals, and directors of special education.  Cost $65.00 6 hours professional development.

The second workshop, "Paraprofessional Training for Students with Visual Impairments" will be held on July 12, 2010 from 8:30-3:00.  This workshop is designed for the paraprofessional who works with students with visual impairments. The following topics will be covered: role of paraprofessional, definition of visual impairment, vision loss and learning, expanded core curriculum, language development, concept development, Braille, daily living skills, orientation and mobility, social skills, assistive technology and adaptation of instructional materials.  Cost $65.00 6 hours professional development.

The third workshop, "Assistive Technology for Students with Visual Impairments" will be held on July 16, 2010 from 8:30-3:00.  This workshop will offer an overview of current assistive technology options available for students who are blind/visually impaired. Developing and administering assistive technology assessments to determine student needs will also be discussed. Product demonstrations will be provided.

Cost $65.00 6 hours professional development.

The fourth workshop, "Math and Science for the Student with Visual Impairments K-12" will be held on   July 30, 2010 from 8:30-3:00. This workshop will address the unique needs in the areas of math and science for students with visual impairments in grades K-12.  Cost $65.00 6 hours professional development.
