The U.S. Department of Education has published a new guidance document pertaining to disclosures related to emergencies and disasters under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The document is posted at http://www2.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/pdf/ferpa-disaster-guidance.pdf.
This information should be helpful as you strive to protect parents' and students' privacy rights under FERPA as part of your disaster/emergency planning.
