Intended Audience: Classroom Teachers, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Paraprofessionals, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, and others interested in the education of children who are blind or visually impaired

A workshop designed for the paraprofessional and teachers who work with students with visual impairments will be held Friday, July 24, 2009, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the University of Missouri, Columbia, #7 London Hall. The workshop will cover the following topics: role of paraprofessional, definition of visual impairment, vision loss and learning, expanded core curriculum, modifications of materials, Braille, orientation and mobility, curricular modification and general expectations. Six hours of professional development will be awarded at the completion of the workshop. Cost for this workshop is $65.

Continental breakfast, lunch, and parking hang tags will be provided.

A professional development day for orientation and mobility specialists will be held Friday, July 31, 2009, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the University of Missouri, Columbia, #7 London Hall.  This workshop is designed for orientation and mobility specialists serving school aged children.  Presentation will include risk assessment in O&M instruction, O&M on a university campus, new O&M assessments, O&M guidelines for administrators, new methods for teaching O&M, and an interactive presentation of O&M and the use of computer maps. Six hours of professional development will be awarded at the completion of the workshop.  Cost for this workshop is $65 per person and includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and parking hangtags.
