As you know, we have been funding the Assistive Technology Reimbursement Program (ATR) through Missouri Assistive Technology (MoAT) for several years. ATR is designed to assist school districts in covering the costs of assuring students have the assistive technology they need in order to receive a free and appropriate education under IDEA.
During 2008-09. MoAT approved 113 applications from 55 different school districts for a total reimbursement to districts of $338,572. The cost range of devices funded has been between $1,000 and $5,000 with the average per child reimbursement at $2,996. The types of equipment funded included the following categories: augmentative and alternative communication(aac), vision, learning, and hearing.
Specific devices funded have included aac devices such as Springboard Lites, V's, and M3s; learning technologies such as text-to-speech software and related peripherals; electronic enlarging devices including the Topaz, Deskmate, Amigo, and Senseview; electronic note takers such as the PacMate and BrailleNote; Braille embossers such as the Mountbatten; and assistive listening devices such as the Edulink and Phonak Inspiro.
