Subject: Deaf/HOH/FREE Online Courses on Teaching Reading to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

"Introduction to Reading and Deafness" and "Phonemic Awareness, Phonics and Fluency for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Students", the first two courses in a three course series on Teaching Reading to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students are now available and are being provided FREE of charge. These courses were developed through a contract between the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Missouri State University in Springfield. Dr. Ye Wang, who is an Assistant Professor of Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, developed the courses.
The courses in the series are non-facilitated allowing participants the maximum flexibly in initiating and completing courses at any time and self pacing throughout the courses. A Certificate of Completion is available for participants who complete both the pre and post tests that accompany the courses. The courses are provided free of charge.
To enroll in the courses go to: http://campus.elearningmo.org. No enrollment key is required for these courses. IF you do not have an account, use the directions on the right hand side of the window to create an account following the prompts. When the list of courses becomes visible, select one of the Reading and Deafness courses. When prompted, say YES and you are registered. IF you have registered at eLearning for Educators previously, use your existing username and password to login. When the opening screen appears, there will be a box on the left hand side of the window entitled "My Courses". Click on "All Courses" and select one of the Reading and Deafness courses. When prompted, say YES and you are registered. E-Learning for Educators will send an email to you to confirm your identity for security purposes.
