School Board Organization

Senate Bill 136 enacted in 2003, changed the number of days in which local boards of education are required to organize after the April election. Section 162.301, RSMo, now requires that the organization meeting occur within fourteen (14) days after the election for the primary purpose of swearing in new board members.  If you will recall, the old law required the board to meet within seven (7) days after the election.

Senate Bill 136 also changed Section 115.127, RSMo, which provides for the opening day for filing a declaration of candidacy for offices in political subdivisions and special districts.  The law changes the opening day from the fifteenth Tuesday before the April election to the sixteenth Tuesday before the election.
