HOUSE BILLS |
||
Allow certain school districts to provide transportation to students who live less than one mile from school and be reimbursed by the state if unsafe traffic situations can be demonstrated. |
||
Allows parents, legal guardians, or other persons with custodial rights to petition a court to his or her child's age of majority to 18 for all purposes under state law. |
||
Allows school nurses to keep on hand and administer epinephrine auto syringes to students who the nurse believes is having an anaphylactic reaction. |
||
Establishes February 4 as "Rosa Parks Day" and makes it a state observance. |
||
Prohibits the state from requiring a substitute or part-time teacher employed within one year of such teacher's retirement to be subject to a background check by a school district. |

Requires the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop standards for high-quality early childhood education. |

Changes the laws regarding sexual offenders. |

Requires school districts to grant authorization to pupils for the possession and self-administration of medications for the treatment of asthma and anaphylaxis. |

SENATE BILLS |
||
Removes the termination date for experimental tariffs put in place by the Public Service Commission and gas corporations for schools. |

Requires collaboration between Higher Education, the Coordinating Board for Higher Education, Elementary and Secondary Education, the state Board of Education, and Economic Development to discuss ways to achieve a more efficient and effective education system to prepare students when entering the workforce. |

Relating to culinary students who taste, but do not consume, certain alcoholic beverages for instructional purposes. |
||
Allows political subdivisions to sell property purchased from a school district for any purpose after 25 years. |
||
Permits school districts meeting certain criteria to make a one-time additional transfer from the incidental fund to the capital projects fund. |

Alters various provisions of the state's special education policy. |

Requires low-levy school districts to provide written notice to DESE asserting whether or not such district is providing an adequate education |
||
Establishes a virtual school program. |
||
This act creates the urban flight and rural needs scholarship program and modifies the student loan program for nursing students. |

Creates the "Holocaust Education and Awareness Commission." |
