Supporting Unaccompanied Homeless Youth in Accessing Higher Education

Webinar Description: This webinar, geared towards the homeless education community, provides important information about College Cost Reduction and Access Act provisions allowing unaccompanied homeless youth to apply for federal financial aid for college as independent students. Topics include:
- A brief primer on the McKinney-Vento Act* and unaccompanied homeless youth
- Determining student status for unaccompanied homeless youth filling out the FAFSA
- Building collaboration to support unaccompanied homeless college students
(*The McKinney-Vento Act is the primary piece of federal legislation dealing with the PreK-12 education of children and youth experiencing homelessness. It establishes the definition of unaccompanied homeless youth used in the College Cost Reduction and Access Act.)
