Long-time education leader Peter F. Herschend, Branson, will be among a group of distinguished business leaders to be honored tonight by the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The state chamber will present Herschend with the 2011 Education Supporter of the Year award during its annual meeting and awards banquet.

The chamber’s reception, dinner and awards ceremony will be held at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City. The event begins at 6 p.m. with an official welcome by Gov. Jay Nixon.

Before his appointment to the state board, he served 12 years on the Branson Board of Education. Herschend currently serves as state board president and has been highly instrumental in promoting high standards for Missouri’s public education system over the past two decades.

The awards banquet is an annual statewide celebration of business. The state chamber will present 15 awards to business leaders and elected officials during the event.
