State Board of Education President Will Serve on

National Committee to Review Education Legislation

David Liechti, St. Joseph, president of the Missouri State Board of Education, has been chosen to serve on the Governmental Affairs Committee of the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE).  The 20-member panel was named last month.

The Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) helps state board of education members across the country understand, influence and plan for federal education policies.  The committee will develop policy recommendations on behalf of NASBE and help communicate the organization’s goals and priorities to members of Congress and federal officials.

“This is a great time for Mr. Liechti to be involved with NASBE’s Governmental Affairs Committee,” said Missouri Commissioner of Education Chris L. Nicastro.

“We could see profound changes in the nation’s education laws and policies over the next couple of years.  States are considering the adoption of common academic standards.  Congress is likely to take action to renew and revise key pieces of federal law affecting our public schools.  It is important for Missouri to have a voice in these debates,” she said.

Mr. Liechti will meet with other state education leaders, national policymakers, lawmakers and policy experts over the coming year and contribute to NASBE’s policy recommendations.

A former member of the St. Joseph Board of Education, Mr. Liechti has been a member of the Missouri State Board of Education since 2003.  He is a Certified Public Accountant and the managing partner of the St. Joseph accounting firm, Liechti & Franken.
