Marketing Students Elect DECA State Officers

Sixteen public high school students were recently named state officers for the Missouri Association of DECA. The students were elected and installed during the Missouri DECA Fall Leadership and State Officer Election Conference held Oct. 17-18 at Lake Ozark. The annual state conference was attended by more than 650 high school marketing students and their teachers. The 2010-2011 officers and their schools are:

Executive State Officers

  • President - Micah Melling, Clinton High School

  • Vice President - Josh Rocha, Glendale High School, Springfield Public Schools

  • Secretary - Lindsey Ralls, Emil E. Holt Sr. High School, Wentzville School District

  • Reporter - Paige Walters, Blue Springs High School

District Vice Presidents

  • District 1 Vice President - Kate Kanjirathinkal, Central High School, St. Joseph School District

  • District 2 Vice President - Michael Richardson, Columbia-Hickman High School

  • District 3 Vice President - Danica Bender, Blue Springs High School

  • District 4 Vice President - Brianna Jackson, Pleasant Hill High School

  • District 5 Vice President - Jeremy Brant, Tipton High School

  • District 6 Vice President - Maddy Millikan, Francis Howell North High School, Francis Howell R-III School District

  • District 7 Vice President - Alexandra Dalton, Pattonville High School

  • District 8 Vice President - Sarah Vandaveer, Pacific High School, Meramec Valley R-III School District

  • District 9 Vice President - Kathleen Breslin, Fox Sr. High School

  • District 12 Vice President - Noah Moyers, Sikeston High School

The newly elected officers were determined on the basis of their written test, screening and nominating committee interview, and number of ballots cast by the voting delegates after delivering their campaign speech during the election session. Serving as a state officer provides DECA members the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and professionalism essential for a successful career.

DECA is an international association of high school students studying marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Missouri DECA ranks sixth in the nation in membership with more than 9,000 members in the career and technical student organization.  There are 12 DECA districts and 177 DECA chapters in Missouri.
