Registration for 2009-10 MoVIP Classes Begins Next Week

Registration for online classes in Missouri’s two-year-old “virtual school” will begin April 14 and continue through May 22, state education officials announced today.  Classes for the 2009-10 academic year start in August.

The Missouri Virtual Instruction Program, or MoVIP, was authorized by the legislature in 2006 and launched by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in 2007.  The program now serves about 2,500 Missouri students, K-12, with a wide range of online academic courses.

Parents, students and local school officials may begin registering for state-funded MoVIP courses next week through the new MoVIP Web site.  The registration process will only be available online.

Because the number of “seats” available in state-funded MoVIP classes depends on the level of funding to be appropriated by the legislature, the demand for MoVIP classes may exceed capacity during the coming year.  Therefore, registering with MoVIP does not guarantee that current students or new students will get all the courses they want.
