Two State Board of Education Members
Are Appointed to National Committees
Two members of the Missouri State Board of Education have been appointed to serve on committees of the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE). The appointments were announced yesterday during the board’s meeting in Jefferson City.
David Liechti, St. Joseph, has been chosen to serve on NASBE’s standing Governmental Affairs Committee, which develops policy recommendations for the organization and communicates with Congress and federal officials.
As part of the 20-member panel, Liechti will meet with other state education leaders, national policymakers and others to evaluate the impact of the federal No Child Left Behind act on the states and suggest possible changes for the Congress to consider.
Mr. Liechti has been a member of the State Board of Education since 2003. He currently serves as vice president of the board.
Rev. Stan Archie, Kansas City, has been selected to serve on a year-long NASBE task force that will recommend state-level policies to reform middle schools.
The 21-member task force will meet with other state officials, middle school leaders and school reform experts to explore ways of improving the achievement and academic progress of middle school students.
Rev. Archie was appointed to the State Board of Education in 2006.
The NASBE organization represents America’s state and territorial boards of education. It is based in Alexandria, Va.
