Rolla School District to Honor Commissioner King

The Rolla School District will honor its former superintendent of schools, Commissioner of Education D. Kent King, at a building dedication ceremony this Sunday, May 4.  The ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Rolla Technical Center.

The school district will formally name and dedicate its main offices as the D. Kent King Administration Center.  The district’s offices are located on the second floor of the Rolla Technical Center, 500 Forum Drive.

Commissioner King, whose career in public education now spans almost 45 years, served as superintendent of the Rolla School District for 19 years (1977-1996).  Previously, he had served as superintendent of the Licking School District and as a teacher and high school principal in the Houston School District.

He joined the staff of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in 1996, initially as director of the Department’s school district accreditation program.  He was appointed Commissioner of Education in the fall of 2000 by the State Board of Education.

The dedication ceremony will include tributes to Dr. King by current and former members of the Rolla Board of Education and current officials of the district.
