Finding Missouri: Our History & Heritage. The Video Series and Resources
[The Video Series & Resources]

The video series was funded by the Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Historical Preservation Section of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.  It is intended for teachers and students of Missouri’s elementary and middle schools.

The videos, which last approximately 12 minutes each, focus on a single topic; feature documentary footage; images of, and spoken words from primary sources; interviews with experts; reenactments and interpretations of historical events and people; footage of historical sites; and fast-moving narrations designed to appeal to upper-elementary and middle-school students.

The Finding Missouri video series may be used in a variety of ways in the classrooms.  Teachers are advised to preview the series and decide how they best fit within their Missouri history/Missouri studies curriculum. Viewing the many resources available on the corresponding pages of this site will aid in presenting this series in a classroom.

Finding Missouri: Our History & Heritage was broadcast via satellite in December 2000.  If you didn't get to record the series, please be informed that a copy was sent to every public school building in the state that has a 7th grade during the first week of February, 2001.  Copies of the series are also available through the SuccessLink lending library and in public libraries throughout Missouri.  There are no copyright restrictions on the videos for use in schools.  If you cannot locate your school's copy, or need additional copies, please feel free to copy the videocassettes as needed.
