Missouri Content Area Exams

You are here

Purpose: The content area assessments are exit assessments that must be completed by the candidate in all areas of certification. The exit assessment must measure the content necessary for teachers, counselors, librarians, principals and superintendents. The exit assessments must be aligned with state and national standards for school and/or district leaders.

Students Currently Enrolled in a State Approved Educator Preparation Program: The Missouri Content Assessments replaced the Praxis II Content Assessments beginning on September 2, 2014. Students currently enrolled in a state-approved Missouri educator preparation program who have passed the Praxis II Content Assessment on or before August 31, 2014, will be allowed to use their score until December 31, 2016. They must have completed their preparation program and apply for certification by December 31, 2016.

Certificated Teachers Wanting to Add-On Certification by Assessment:  Individuals desiring to add new areas of certification by test to an existing Missouri professional teaching certificate must now comply by applying with the new approved Missouri Content Assessment (see list below). Previous Praxis II Content Assessments will no longer be accepted for this process.
