Assessments for Teacher Education & Certification in MO

The practice of assessing candidates for entry into teacher education and for certification in Missouri was authorized by the Excellence in Education Act in 1985. The Missouri State Board of Education has adopted the Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA) as the official assessment required for admittance into professional education programs in the state's colleges and universities.

Students Currently Enrolled in a State Approved Educator Preparation Program: The Missouri Content Assessments replaced the Praxis II Content Assessments beginning on September 2, 2014. Students currently enrolled in a state-approved Missouri educator preparation program who have passed the Praxis II Content Assessment on or before August 31, 2014, will be allowed to use their score until December 31, 2016. They must have completed their preparation program and apply for certification by December 31, 2016.

Certificated Teachers Wanting to Add-On Certification by Assessment:  Individuals desiring to add new areas of certification by test to an existing Missouri professional teaching certificate must now comply by applying with the new approved Missouri Content Assessment (see list below). Previous Praxis II Content Assessments will no longer be accepted for this process.

DESE receives all official score reports directly from the testing company. You may verify the schedule of Score Report Dates at the following website: Score Reporting Dates
