Goals of the Missouri Advisory Council of Certification for Educators (MACCE)
August 2004 - August 2005
The mission of MACCE is: (1) to be a proactive and visible advocate for learners in Missouri through educator certification, (2) to promote a vision of professionalism in teaching, and (3) to communicate with the Commissioner, State Board of Education, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Examine the factors impacting the supply and demand of a quality teaching force:
- Praxis cut-off scores
- Monitor the quality of the teaching force
- Monitor the supply of school personnel in critical needs areas
- Determine who has what responsibility for the verification of competency mastery in the preparation of teachers, including transfer
and exit - Monitor and make recommendations with regard to alternative routes to certification
- Evaluate and monitor the efforts to streamline the certification and program approval processes with the following actions:
- Review and monitor the effects of rule changes
- Monitor legislation concerning certification issues
MACCE Subcommittees for 2004-2005
Mentoring
Includes setting standards for the mentoring process and standards for the individual mentors that include a broad set of district standards while allowing for individualized, localized specifics:
- Develop a "how to" guide for mentoring
- Identify the most important area for new teachers to work on

Review American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) exam
This committee will investigate the exam to determine it's components. Find out what other states are using the exam for certification; and if it would be a viable option for educators in Missouri by:
- Researching the ABCTE
- Researching other alternate routes to certification that are currently recognized in Missouri
