The Division of Special Education is extending invitations to apply for Special Education Improvement Grants for 2010-11 in the areas of Elementary Achievement and Post-Secondary Transition. This is an excellent opportunity for districts to receive funding for systems change efforts including three-tiered models such as Response to Intervention (RtI), School-Wide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS), and Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
Districts were strongly encouraged to participate in Regional Improvement Planning trainings during October and November of 2009.
These trainings focused on developing improvement plans, which will serve as grant applications.
Letters of intent to apply are required by January 11, 2010. Sample letters of intent can be found in the grant packet http://dese.mo.gov/divspeced/EffectivePractices/ImprovementPlan.htm.
These letters can be submitted electronically to webreplyspeep@dese.mo.gov or through the postal service to Special Education Effective Practices, P O Box 480, Jefferson City, MO 65102.
Applications will be submitted through the web-based system, ePeGS, and must include an Improvement Plan. A list of preapproved expenditures is included in the grant packet found at http://www.dese.mo.gov/divspeced/EffectivePractices/documents/10GPkt.pdf
. The deadline for application submission is March 1, 2010, 5:00p.m.
