Subject: Excess Cost Calculation Worksheet

Any district receiving federal Part B IDEA funds must complete the Excess Cost (Verification of) Calculation Worksheet prior to the beginning of each school year to determine the amount of state and local funds a district must spend on children with disabilities before accessing any federal Part B IDEA funds.  At this time, the Division is asking districts NOT to complete the existing worksheet for the upcoming 2008-09 school year until further notice.  The Division is working with the North Central Regional Resource Center (NCRRC) and other surrounding states to identify the required components to be included in the calculation.  Districts will receive a SELS message once the revised worksheet and calculation are finalized.

The Division will NOT be collecting the worksheets completed at the beginning of the 2007-08 year (using 2006-07 ASBR data) as originally requested.  However, once the revised calculation has been finalized, districts will be asked to use the new form to complete the calculations for both the 2007-08 and 2008-09 school year.  The Division will require both worksheets to be submitted at a later date.
