Subject: Accessible Materials Training/NIMAS Source: Missouri Assistive Technology Intended Audience: Local Education Agency Staff Date: May 6, 2008 Missouri Assistive Technology is offering a two-part training for local education agency (LEA) staff to increase capacity to produce accessible instructional materials utilizing the National Instructional Materials Accessibility Standards (NIMAS) file sets - Tuesday, June 24, 2008, and Friday, October 17, 2008. LEAs that participate in both the summer and fall trainings will be eligible to apply for small grants to acquire assistive technology needed by the LEA to support delivery of accessible instructional materials to students with disabilities. Part one of this training will focus on the production of student ready electronic text including HTML, RTF, and DAISY formats, along with information about utilizing assistive technology to access that electronic text. Part two of this training will provide instruction on utilizing NIMAS file sets to produce hard copy alternative format materials including embossed Braille and large print. Training will be limited to 50 participants. Lunch and refreshments will be provided along with overnight lodging expenses for participants traveling 90 miles or more.
