Subject: "New" Special Education Directors
Training
Source: Pam Williams, Coordinator, Services
Intended Audience: "New" Directors of Special Education
Date: May 10, 2007
A SELS message was sent March 14, 2007, announcing that the Division of
Special Education would be holding a summer Institute for New Directors of
Special Education on July 30, 31, and August 1, 2007, in Jefferson City.
This message serves as a reminder of this institute and the importance of
registering as soon as possible.
Important information, guidelines, and registration procedures are now
posted at:
http://dese.mo.gov/divspeced/DITraining2007.html.
The institute will focus on core activities that new directors of special
education must complete during their initial months of employment. It will
present basic information in the areas of special education data collection
and analysis, compliance requirements, funds management, and effective
instructional practices. The information provided will assist the new
director in the management of special education procedures and practices
that promote positive outcomes for students with disabilities while ensuring
that the rights of students with disabilities and their parents are
protected.
Who should attend this institute?*
A "new" director is defined as a person who will be assuming the
position/duties of a Director of Special Education for the first time during
the 2007-2008 school year. Districts planning to hire an individual who has
never been a Director of Special Education in any Missouri school district
or an individual who will be assuming such a position during the coming
school year are encouraged to reserve these dates and submit a registration
to the Division of Special Education as soon as possible.
*Please note: Due to high demand and limited space availability, individuals
who have attended this training in the past are not eligible to enroll in
this year's institute. |
