We have just been notified by the U.S. Department of Education about a new resource for using Response to Intervention in LD identification.

The National Research Center on Learning Disabilities (NRCLD), an OSEP-funded joint project of researchers at Vanderbilt University and the University of Kansas, will release on Friday, May 4, 2007, a resource kit to help educators navigate the changes related to specific learning disability determination and responsiveness to intervention.
The Learning Disabilities Resource Kit: Specific Learning Disabilities Determination Procedures and Responsiveness to Intervention is available on NRCLD's website, http://www.nrcld.org/resource_kit. The resource kit features general information for educators, "how-to" manuals to guide discussions of SLD determination and RtI, and briefs to help parents understand RtI and SLD determination changes. All materials in the Learning Disabilities Resource Kit are in the public domain and may be reproduced.

The kit includes the following sections:  --Specific Learning Disability and Responsiveness to Intervention General Information --Specific Learning Disability and Responsiveness to Intervention Tools for Change --Getting Started with SLD Determination: After IDEA Reauthorization --Responsiveness to Intervention: How to Do It --PowerPoint Presentations --Parent Pages

In addition to being able to download a copy of the kit via NRCLD's website, interested parties can request a CD version of the kit via the website. Finally, print versions of the kit and the accompanying CD will be sent to the following groups/organizations, among others, on Friday:  OSEP TA&D Network members Comprehensive/Content/Equity Assistance Centers Parent Training/Information Centers State Directors of Special Education including the Territories and BIA Federal RRC and RRCs
