Subject: Subject: Autism/Grants Available to Expand the Capacity to Effectively Serve Autism Spectrum Disorders Source: Barb Gilpin, Interim Assistant Director, Effective Practices Intended Audience: Special Education Teachers, General Education Teachers, Counselors, Special Education Directors, Principals, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Therapists Date: February 15, 2008 Autism Speaks, an autism advocacy group, is seeking proposals from school districts for its Family Services Community Grant program to fund projects that will enhance the lives of those affected by autism spectrum disorders. Proposals for these family services grants are sought in the following areas: Education, Recreation/Community Activities, Equipment/Support Technology, and Young Adult/Adult Services. Educators, trainers, and services providers who work with individuals with autism are invited to apply. In December, $565,000 was awarded to 29 community programs across the nation. The deadline for submitting applications is March 29, 2008. Information about the Community Grant program can be accessed at http://www.autismspeaks.org/community/fsdb/grants.php. |
