Subject: Children's Vision Summit/Blind Task Force-Save the Date Source: Heike Imler, Interim Assistant Director, Effective Practices Intended Audience: Parents, Classroom Teachers, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Students, and others interested in the education of children who are blind or visually impaired Date: January 29, 2008 The 2008 Children's Vision Summit, sponsored by the Task Force on Blind Student Academic and Vocational Performance will be held April 2 and 3, 2008, at Holiday Inn Select-Executive Center in Columbia, Missouri. This year's summit will include an emphasis on math and science, with a math challenge for blind and visually impaired students as well as many presentations in the areas of education, advocacy, and alternative skills of blindness. In keeping with the emphasis on mathematics, the summit will be welcoming a nationally-known guest speaker, Susan Osterhaus. Susan has been teaching secondary mathematics for 29 years at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austin, Texas. Susan has taught or consulted with VI students from grades 6 through college, at achievement levels ranging from third grade to talented and gifted.
